Worry Worms

Continuing the theme of paying it forward and putting some good karma back into the world, I’ve recently crocheted some “worry worms” to donate to my local hospital. When I was dropping off the surgery pillows and drain bags, the Macmillan Nurse mentioned that she’d seen these and she wanted some to give to patients, but needed to find someone who crochets.

Crochet is much more in my comfort zone! The pattern was from the “Random Acts of Crochet Kindess” Facebook group, and there was a helpful video on how to make them up.

A couple got snapped up by friends before I even managed to drop them off and my son claimed one for himself too. I ordered some small bags to put them in, printed the cards in bulk and trimmed them to fit to size. These are brilliant for using up scraps of wool and it’s fun to use different colours and textures to add in some variety too.

The Pattern

The video I used for the pattern is below. Match your hook size to your wool thickness. I’ve rewritten the instructions below in UK terms as the video uses US terms.

  1. Chain 30, turn.
  2. Skip 1st chain, slip stich into 2nd chain. 4 Double Crochet each next stitch until one stitch left. 10 Treble Crochet into last stitch. Slip stitch, chain 1 and fasten ends.
  3. Weave in ends.

I’m still open to new ideas or ways to repay the kindness I experienced back into the world. If there’s something you’ve done, let me know!
