Hair growth after chemo

I initially felt really vain about being upset about my hair when it came to chemotherapy and the likelihood of me losing it. I was conflicted as I was upset about the prospect of being bald, but my inner feminist was telling me that “I didn’t need hair to be a woman and that I’d be fine without”.

With the benefit of hindsight and a bit more perspective now, I realise that it’s ok to feel the way I did. Although I’ve embraced my “chemo curls”, whenever I look in the mirror I find it a constant reminder that I had cancer. Some days I love wearing hair pieces as I look like “the old me”.

I’ve found a common question from a lot of women who go through chemo is:

“How fast will it grow back?”

So to help answer that question for others, I present my own photo montage of my hair growth, from shaving through to now. I finished my last chemo in October and I’ll be writing more about that part of my personal story later. I’ll also be doing future posts on hair pieces, wigs, scarves and such – as well as things I’ve done to try and keep my hair and scalp healthy to help promote regrowth.
